Boyut Publications is introducing the book that documents 11 years of Kumpanya's work in the performing arts under the name of "What Can I Say? I am Confused!".
The book is the first of its kind within the field of performing arts with its contents ranging from play scripts, show stills, study notes, pre-production designs, doodlings, drawings, unused ideas, theoretical writings, and documents.
"Kumpanya's book is about the development of this company. It also qualifies as a significant document that records information regarding 90's theatre. The book includes play scripts, photographs, drawings, information on the shows, interviews, reactions and comments from the audience and the presentation of this material has been designed in a manner that reflects the totality of theatre. The most impressive material is the writings that document audience reception. Feelings such as estrangement, excitement, surprise, boredom, enjoyment flourish alongside intellectual activities such as creating new associational fields within the possibilities of the work, trying to relate the points of connection and deciphering the signifiers on stage....."
The quote above belongs to a leading theatre theoretician, Zehra İpşiroğlu who wrote one of the two introductions to the book that documents the whole of Kumpanya's work since its founding. The second introduction is by Dikmen Gürün Uçarer, the Director of İstanbul International Theatre Festival and the Head of the Department of Dramaturgy in İstanbul University. Both of these articles also serve as a short study on theatre.
This book will pave the way for similar publications that are, somehow, missing in Turkey and it will be a reference book for all kinds of artists in performing arts, whether they align themselves with Kumpanya or not.
